Garlic Essential Oil (Allium Sativum)
The use or garlic oil can be traced back 4000years to the time of the Babylonians and there have been many suggestions ofhealth benefits over the years. It has been considered beneficial for keepingevil spirits at bay in many cultures throughout history – right up to thevampire stories of today!
Garlic essential oil is little known andoften misunderstood. It is an extremely potent oil and only a tiny amount isneeded to benefit. The oil can cause significant irritation if applied neat tothe skin and so it is very important to highly dilute (we suggest only 1 dropin a tablespoon of carrier). Unlike other essential oils, this is not one foryour oil burner – it truly does smell of very strong garlic!
It most commonly used in application to thebody – in the above dilution it can be applied directly to the affected areaand can also be effective when applied to the soles of the feet
During WW1 it was used to treat sepsis, infectionsand grangrene. There is mounting scientific evidence supporting the topical useof garlic for fungal infections, blood pressure and cholesterol, but theresearch is ongoing.
It can be used in conjunction with lavenderand tea tree, not for its aroma but for their symbiotic effect.
